ABSTRACT This presentation will illustrate the spectroscopy tools that James Martin used to provide answers to conservators and museums, auction houses and galleries, the FBI and Department of Justice, and judges and juries about the composition, history, age, and authenticity of works of art.
BRIEF BIO Over nearly four decades, James Martin has examined and analyzed cultural property, unlocking mysteries such as age, attribution, and authenticity. He established and operated four ground-breaking conservation science laboratories: Clark Art Institute (1991-2000), Orion Analytical (2000-2016), and Sotheby's New York and London (2016-2023).
