CNIRS is a technical affiliate of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy (SAS), a member of the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS), and the sponsor of the International Diffuse Reflectance Conference (IDRC, a.k.a. the “Chambersburg Meeting”). Summary of last section event: The theme for the 17th International Diffuse Reflectance Conference (IDRC), which took place on August 2 – 8, 2014 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, USA, was Spectroscopy in Emerging Markets. The scope of the conference was expanded to “go back to the roots” of diffuse reflection spectroscopy and cover applications in any spectral region or field of optical spectroscopy (NIR, Mid-IR, Visible, Raman, Terahertz, etc.) utilizing diffuse reflection. One of the main objectives of the conference was to attract professionals and students from the countries experiencing growth in these applications. Summary of next section event: The next International Diffuse Reflectance Conference (IDRC) is scheduled for July 30 - August 5, 2016 and, as usual, will be held on the 300-acre campus of Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The meeting follows the “Gordon Conference” format: the attendees attend plenary morning and evening sessions, with afternoons free for elective activities. This allows a unique opportunity for informal interaction with highly accomplished professionals in the field. Since 1982, this conference has offered the opportunity to forge lifelong professional relationships and friendships.
