Overview:

The Society for Applied Spectroscopy seeks part-time Independent Advertising Sales Representative to drive revenue growth through advertising sales in scientific journals (Applied Spectroscopy, Applied Spectroscopy Practica), and affiliated websites and events. The candidate will also secure corporate partnerships and collaborate with leadership on strategic growth initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sales plan for advertising in both Applied Spectroscopy and Applied Spectroscopy Practica.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing advertisers, ensuring satisfaction and fostering repeat business.
  • Increase client list by identifying new advertisers from the spectroscopy industry including equipment manufacturers, software developers, and service providers.
  • Identify and pursue sponsorship opportunities for SAS events, conferences, and other society initiatives.
  • Prepare and deliver persuasive sales presentations, proposals, and follow-up reports to advertisers and sponsors.
  • Negotiate advertising rates and contracts, ensuring they align with SAS’s pricing structure and profitability goals.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and finance teams to ensure timely and successful placements and invoicing.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and market conditions to adjust sales strategies and capitalize on new opportunities.
  • Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to represent SAS and promote advertising and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activities, revenue forecasts, and client interactions.

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of success in sales, with experience in scientific or technical publishing preferred.
  • Understanding of digital advertising trends and technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Solid network of contacts in relevant industries, especially in Europe and Asia preferred.

Hours and Travel:

  • This is a commission only position that is estimated to be 8-12 hours per week with the current list of clients.  We anticipate this role will grow when the individual is successful at expanding the client list, especially into Asia and Europe.
  • Travel to 2-4 major conferences per year where SAS has a presence is required.
  • The position has a flexible schedule and is remote. If the position is filled in 2024, there will be the opportunity to work with the incumbent and learn the key markets and players.
