2026 Award Recipient

Kristin Selinder MacDonald
Initially hired by Dr. Mike Blades through the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada, Kristin began with Applied Spectroscopy and the Society for Applied Spectroscopy (SAS) in June of 2012 as an editorial assistant and was appointed as Managing Editor in September 2012. Prior to this, she brought four years of research support and report writing in cultural resources/archaeology prior to receiving her Master of Science degree in Geography at the University of Nevada, Reno. Her graduate school research assistantship was her first foray into academic publishing as Editorial Assistant of The Geographical Review under Dr. Paul F. Starrs, editor-in-chief, for three years. Upon graduation, she provided additional research and writing support that resulted in a growing familiarity with the XRF and XRD techniques used for desert soils mitigation at the Desert Research Institute. Upon relocation to Canada in 2004, she volunteered for a start-up science museum, helped organize an archaeological database for the Museum of Vancouver, and as a mining research and documentation specialist for a start-up mining exploration firm, all while serving as a research and writing mentor and advisor to English as Additional Language students enrolled in the Simon Fraser University Technical Innovation and Entrepreneurship program. With 14 years in service to SAS and the journals, she appreciates and thanks everyone she has worked with for the many valuable learning opportunities in physical chemistry and spectroscopy.
